History of Rotary Club of Hubli East.
The Rotary Club of Hubli East was chartered on 14th Nov 1990 with Club No 27641.Rtn Paul D’Costa was the R I President and Late Dr Sunil Desai of Kolhapur was the Dist. Governor. The chartered president was late V S Joshi and the Secretary was John Mascarenhas. We met at Khadi Gramodyog campus every Wednesday evening.
Many shelters for bus commuters were built en-route Gopankoppa. We experienced the first internationality in providing toys to the crèche in the campus under IPAC of Australia. A 100 years old well was de-silted and safe drinking water was provided to the community in association of RC Ontoria, Canada.
Rtn Basil Dsouza .as the president of the club in 1992-93, received 3 matching grants. A classical vocal recitation by the Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi was arranged to raise funds to establish a primary school in Venkatesh Colony.
Rtn K Satish in his presidentship, in 93-94, hosted a RDC workshop, vaccination camp and an eye check-up camp. Donated Disaster Relief fund to the RI.
Late Rtn M D Desai, president in 1995-96, constructed 2 class rooms to the school, provided desks and teaching materials, under the Matching Grant with RC Belrose, Australia. Donated Disaster Relief fund to the RI,Visit to Sri Lanka under friendship exchange program with Rtn Basil and Rtn Antonysamy.and Rtn K Satish was arranged. Large No, of members donated to The Rotary Foundation.
Rtn K R Shalwadi as the president in 1996-97 conducted the career guidance courses in the high schools, Rotary Conference for new generation, and a free eye check-up and IOL camp was organized with Vision Hospital, another class room was added and laboratory equipments were given under the matching grant project. The club was appreciated by the RI President for its projects.
Rtn. S.Antonysamy as president in 97-98, added another class room to the school, constructed a bus shelter on Kusugal Road with SBI. Conducted a youth conference and career guidance course, Rtn Basil Dsouza became the Dist Secretary in Dr B L Patil period. Hosted District conference with other clubs in Hubli and Rtn K R Shalwadi became PHF. Mega eye checkup camp and IOL operations by Dr.MM Joshi were held. Sports events were conducted in Government schools and prizes were awarded.
Rtn S U Dharwad as president in 98-99- donated computers to St Michaels School and commenced the Computers Training Centre ,The school was provided with desks and chairs. 13 members of our club participated in the Rotary International Convention at Singapore. Rtn Basil was invited to Thailand to attend the CLE workshop.
Rtn R K Tadahal as president in 99-2000, conducted free computers training course in our school,5 computers were donated to St Marys school under Matching grants, a school van was donated to Manovikas mentally retarded school A probus club was established in Vivekanand colony. Rtn Basil Dsouza, led as the leader of a group of non-Rtns to Alabama,USA under the Group Study Exchange scheme.
Rtn C B Patil as president in 2000-01, conducted a CLE training to the teachers of 4 cities. An Interact Club was sponsored in Lamington Girls High School, donated to earth quake victims of Gujrat, received grant under blindness relief and conducted a family planning camp.
Late Rtn Gangappa Magadi 2001-02 as president, managed to raise the primary school to High school, two class rooms were added and a computer training centre was started. Desks were provided to a school at Noolvi, donated to a Rotary Club in Brazil under Matching Grant, eye camps were conducted in rural areas, donated equipments to the Blood Bank at Navanagar under Matching Grant, Rtn Basil received award from The Rotary Foundation.
Rtn Ram Mahashabde in 2002-03, conducted dental and ENT camps in Mundgod and Kikkeri .4 class rooms were added to our school, provided desks to Durgadevi High school, raised funds for eradication of polio and club received appreciation award from the RI and the DG.
Rtn Mohan Katti in 2003-04 as president conducted blood donation camps, nine polio corrective surgery operations were done at Dr Naregal’s hospital,. Members donated to The Rotary Foundation. And ten youths were sponsored for the RYLA conducted at Doddaballapur.
Rtn Ashok Kamat , as president in 2004-05,conducted polio corrective surgery camps, eye camps, health check up camps, Dental camp at Hangal , 5 sewing machines to the Gayatri colony women, the Rotary centennial year was celebrated by all the 7 Rotary clubs of Hubli in a grand manner.The Postal department has released a special envelope to mark the Rotary Centenary. Rtn Basil Dsouza was declared as the Dist Governor elect for 2007-08.
Rtn Rahul Nagmule as president in 2005-06, conducted free eye check-up and IOL camps with Dr. M M Joshi eye hospital, health check-up camps for women and children at Mundgod and distribution of pain removal medicines at Dr Naregal’s hospital. We lost Rtn B S Patil chairman of Khadi Gramodyog and mayor of HDMC – who was very much of help to our club.
Rtn P S Patil ,in the year 2006-07, managed the adoption of 15 girls students for their educational expenses., sponsored the asst governors training camp, pre PETS. Rtn Basil, with his wife, attended the International Assembly at San Diego USA. The Dist Governor year preparations commenced in the club,
Rtn M Y Gaddankeri in 2007-08, as president and Rtn Basil as the Dist Governor were installed at the hand of Rtn P C Thomas the RI Director. The Rotary Pariwar of Hubli hosted the 49th Dist Conference with 2000 delegates. The stalwarts like K Kasturi Rangan, Gen V P Malik, Jaya Raw, K V Chari, and Anil Jijodia addressed the conference. The conference arrangements were appreciated by all. The conference proceedings were published in a bulletin the same day. Rtn Krishna Shalwadi was the editor of the Governor’s Monthly Letter and brought out them regularly. We lost the Dist Govr designated Rtn Vishnu Kamat and Rtn Guru Bhakta was elected as the Dist Govr in his place.
Rtn Mahesh Uppin as the president in 2008-09, hosted the meeting for DGN selection, eye checkup and IOL camps conducted. The Dist Governor Awards Nite was conducted in Panaji Goa. We lost Rtn V S Joshi -the chartered president and the first chairman of our educational society-the ever unfilled gap to the club. Rtn Rahul Nagmule in the year 2009-10 as the president donated 2 computers to our school under sankhya project, joint weekly meetings with other clubs, sponsored a summer camp in our school, a RCC was sponsored and Sri Mohan Katti was the chartered president. Conducted polio workshops and polio drops booths management.
Rtn S F Patil as president in 2010-11, arranged the dental check-up camp in our school, eye check-up and IOL camps, conducted the Rotary’s birth day with Prof. K A Siddhanti as the chief guest, teacher’s day and felicitations to the teachers. 11Past Presidents participated in PPs Meet at Amboli ghat hosted by RC Sawantwadi.
Rtn Antonysamy in 2011-12 as the president conducted a health camp for girl students with Dr Saroja Bhairi, a postman-Sri Barker- was felicitated at the hands of our Dist Governor as the vocational excellence award. Innerwheel club of Hubli city came into existence with RC Hubli South. The club faced acute lack of membership and faced the merger or abolition threat. Therefore added 12 new members and received member growth District award. Our club one among 21 clubs in the District contributed per capita 100 US dollars.
Rtn Simon Dsouza in 2012-13 managed to induct the new members to avoid merger. Our school student Divya Awaji was selected as the DIR. Two computers were given, LCD project was donated to St Michaels school, teachers felicitated Smt Vinaya Shet and Smt Shanta Hebballi felicitated, conducted Interactors Conference,10 bicycles were given to girls students. Rtn Basil was awarded the highest R I award “Distinguished Service Award”.
Rtn Maria Mathews, the club’s only lady member, in the year 2013-14 as president conducted eye camp with 37 IOL operations, blood donation camps, youth conference, workshop for teachers on values, career guidance courses, and yoga camps.
Rtn Shantaraj Pol, in the year 2014-15 as the president sponsored as artificial limb camp and 105 patients were benefitted, actively participated in the Swatch Bharat abhiyan, dental camp for the children.
Rtn. Prasannakumar as the president for 2015-16 conducted Health check-up camp for women and children, Blood donation camps, Personality Development camps and Career Guidance camps to marked the silver Jubilee of the Club.
Rtn. G M Hiremath was the president for 2016-17 and Rtn. Shivaprasad Bekal was the secretary. The Club built WINS facility at School No. 5, Nagshettykoppa and Government Kannada School in Bengeri.
