PDG. Rtn. Bazil D’Souza

Rtn. Bazil D’Souza was born at Kakkeri in Belgaum District on 1st may,1953.in a God fearing Catholic family. His father was a Primary School Teacher. His parents inspired him to excel in his studies. Rtn. Basil studied in Nirmala High School,Nirmala Nagar, Belgaum. He is a Science graduate and a Post Graduate in Education. At an young age of 19 years, he joined St.Michael’s High School to serve the student community. He has served as a teacher for 25 years at St.Michael’s High School, Hubli..

During these years he has put in lot of efforts to develop the school. The results at public exam were Cent Percent. His students today are serving the community as Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Educationists, Businessman and also as top officers in various organizations. He organised educational seminars and has addressed on problems in education at various meets of teachers. He has been awarded as “Best Teacher” by Karnataka State Secondary School Employees Association. He has taken voluntary retirement in 1997 to take up new ventures. Even after retirement from teaching profession he actively participates in educational activities.

At present he is in business of Real Estate Development. He is the Proprietor of Ashraya Estate Developers & Builders, Managing Director of Ashrita Housing Pvt. Ltd. He has developed about 80 acres of land and has provided sites at reasonable and affordable price. He is also in business of construction.

He is the founder Chairman of Chetana Cooperative Housing Society Ltd., having a membership of 2050. He has provided sites to siteless. He has addressed seminars and workshops on housing conducted by Dept. of Co-operation, Govt. of Karnataka. He is a member of National Cooperative Housing Federation New Delhi.

Govt. of India nominated him as Member for Telephone Advisory Committee, Dharwad Telecom Dist. for the years 1998-2000. He is Director of Goan Institute, a century old organisation which tries to promote Culture. He is Secretary, Rotary Educational & Welfare organization, through which a Rotary Primary & High School has been established. There are more than 1000 students mostly coming from urban poor families. The School is known for its activities and standard of education. He is also a member of Managing Committee, Rotary Blood Transfusion Centre at cancer Hospital, Navanagar, Hubli.

A chartered Member of Rotary Club of Hubli East since 1990. President in 1993-94. He was GGR, 1994-95, District Chairman for WCS,1995-96, District Chairman RYLA 1995-96, Annual Giving RDC 1996-97, District Secretary Publications & Administration 1997-98, Asst. Governor in 1998-99 for Dharwad Revenue District consisting of 14 Clubs of which 11 Clubs received Matching Grants. District Chairman Matching Grants during 1999-2000 & 2000-2001 and pouplarised the Matching Grant in the Dist and is popularly called Matching Grant Man. He was DCC TRF – Annual Giving during 2001-2002 & 2003-04. Each year he conducted the Raffle and helped to promote all time high contributions to TRF. Governors Area Aide 2001-02. RI District has nominated and elected Rtn.Bazil D’souza as District governor for the year 2007-08.

He was the leader of the first ever Friendship exchange team to Sri Lanka in 1996. In 1999 Rotary International invited him to Bangkok, Thailand to participate in C L E (Concentrated Language encounter) Workshop. Educators from 27 countries participated. He is one of the pioneers in the field of CLE program which is a new methodology of teaching in our Dist. This program has benefited 18 clubs and about 2000 school students in our District. He trained 300 teachers in Karnataka & 75 in Maharashtra. He participated in the RI convention at Singapore in 1999 and was actively involved in a discussion on Literacy. He led Group Study Exchange team of our Dist to RI Dist 6880s, Alabama, U.S.A. in April 2000.

He has to his credit District Excellence Awards & District Service Award of The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation has awarded “Citation for Meritorious Service Award” in 2001-2002. He is a major donor.

Married to Ann Lorraine, a Secondary School teacher by profession and is blessed with three children. Eldest daughter Sonia is an Engineering graduate, Son Sachin is also an Engineering Post graduate in Tool Designs and managing his own business in Hubli. and the youngest daughter Sheetal is an Engineering Graduate in Computer Science.
